Wedding Ideas

Obviously, since we are within the midst of planning our wedding, we have a few decisions to make. As of now we have quite a bit of the preparations set in place. Here is a list just to get you up to date on what has been decided:

The church - Irvington Presbyterian Church
The reception site - The Rathskeller
The dress- umm definitely not posting any info on this one.. you’ll see it on Aug. 29th
The bridal party - It took awhile but we decided who was “in”
The transportation - The Chicken Limo if you know us, then you know why we have it.
The decor - I have a super sweet and amazing step-mom that is really helping me out with all of the decorations. She rules…

So that’s just a list to get things going, and next on the list is the cake. I’ve been talking back and forth with my wonderful pastry chef. My grandma set me up with her, and I’m amazed by her beautiful work. I’m thinking of having a 4-5 tier cake that is simple fondant icing with a thick green ribbon at the bottom of the tier and accented with pink flowers. I found this cake on the knot.com (my home away from home on the internet these days).

Pay no attention to the colors, just the style. Ours will be all white or ivory fondant, then our colors of kiwi green and magenta will be accenting the cake. What do you think? I’m open to any and all suggestions… post some photos of your own if you’d like to help out!

I really expected something crazier for a cake from you guys! so sad… haha.

It is pretty though. I like that the top is taller than the bottom. What if you did a lighter tint of one of your colors instead of white? It is less traditional, unless thats what your going for.

I have seen photos of this chicken limo…and as your photographer, I could just about pee my pants in excitement for the awesome photos we are gonna get with that!

one that note, you should put a chicken on the cake. the end.

4-5 tiers will also give you the opportunity to have a few different flavors of cake! If Hup loves Red Velvet and you cannot live without Chocolate, you can do each! I would recommend making one layer white - whatever the flavor, and use that for when you smash it into each others’ faces. Don’t have to worry about your dress getting stained.

It’s a gorgeous cake and I’m sure everything will be fantastic!

My cousin’s reception in 07′ was at the Rathskellar - and it was STELLAR. The staff, the food, the atmosphere was all wonderful, not to mention the live band outdoors was just an additional treat for anyone who needed a breather from our 250 family members!

Good luck with the rest of the progress - from the looks of it, you guys have gotten a jump on the most important parts, so the rest just falls into place now! :)

It’s true Holly… we need something crazier don’t we..
On that note I’ll definitely take you up on your suggestions.. minus the chicken maybe:)

We plan on making the actual cake table a little crazy though, so keeping the cake more “simple” might look better.. just a thought… and plus we WILL be making a spectacle of smashing so who needs a crazy cake when you have a crazy couple :)

    Have you tasted the fondant?

I always wanted the fondant for my wedding cake because I thought it looked so elegant, but had no idea it tasted so bad…in my opinion! Hey, at least it looks good! :)

Definitely make sure to incorporate both of your tastes. I like white cake, my husband loves chocolate - so we went for marble cake with almond flavored icing - with a chocolate filling. The almond icing was amazing…

And The Knot rocks, doesn’t it? I couldn’t have lived without it… After your done with The Knot, you can move onto The Nest (for married people) and then The Bump (for pregnant women!).
    Cracks me up.

Kylie- good advice about the fondant.. I’m not sure if I’m willing to sacrifice the “look” for the “taste”… is that bad? Who really eats a lot of the cake at a wedding anyway :)

The Knot is fantastic and it is hilarious that they have The Nest and The Bump… goodness let’s hope I don’t frequent The Bump for at least a few years after we’re married.. haha.

‘goodness let’s hope I don’t frequent The Bump for at least a few years after we’re married.. haha.’

    Amen to that, sista. :)

I think you would be much happier with icing. Fondant looks elegant but tastes bad I don’t care what they say I’ve tried several different tastes and it is still bad

This cake would probably be perfect actually.
